Devarana:
Heaven for Spa lovers
When the Relax review team recently visited the Devarana Spa at the Dusit Hotel, North Pattaya, we were greeted by Khun Thanida, who guided us through the many options on the treatment menu. (Available in Thai, English, Japanese, Russian and French.) The name Devarana is very appropriate, being a Sanskrit word meaning ‘garden in heaven’.
The Devarana has been open for about six years, and has nine treatment rooms; five singles, three doubles and the Grand Suite, where we were lucky enough to be treated. After enjoying a drink of roselle infusion, we were asked to choose a blend of aromatherapy oils. I chose the ‘energizing’, and my colleague opted for the ‘romantic’ (there were also relaxing and balancing).
The Spa, located downstairs from the entrance level, has a peaceful garden with water features. We were asked to don slippers and led across the water garden to the treatment area by Khun Apinya and Khun Prakyrung, our therapists. We looked around the Grand Suite with its large outdoor bathtub, indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, as well as the double treatment room. All were gently lit, with soothing music; a relaxing ambience.
We both enjoyed two of the signature treatments; a Devarana body scrub using mineral sea salt followed by an aromatherapy Devarana Massage, using a mixture of Thai, Ayurveda and Shiatsu techniques. The third Devarana signature treatment is the private double Bath, with delicate fresh lotus petals and essential oils in the water.
We were invited to shower and lie on the flower petals, on the treatment beds. After we had been thoroughly scrubbed, we showered to wash off the scrub, and then lay back to appreciate the massage. We were advised not to shower at the end, but to enjoy our moisturised skin, with its gentle aroma.
The Spa is open every day with eight lady therapists. Most of the guests are ladies, but men are welcome, and there are several special treatments for them, including massage and facials. Aromatherapy massage is the most popular treatment. For more information on the many treatments and membership programme, call the hotel on 038 425611-7 or contact the Relax office on 038-233490
